All you need is a little patience to make this sauce

My grandmother was famous for her spaghetti sauce (not world famous, mind you, but everyone who tasted it wanted more).
She made it fresh...none of that canned stuff to which we sometimes resort to when we are in a hurry. If you have the time, it's well worth the effort to use fresh tomatoes and herbs. My grandmother used fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes, but I've never had much luck
growing tomatoes, so store-bought ones are just fine.
It doesn't take much work, but a little patience to make this sauce. You have to stir from time to time once the sauce is assembled in the pot.
You can use this sauce with spaghetti or lasagna or any number of dishes.
Take your time. Have a glass or two of wine while it's cooking and be ready to enjoy.
If you're cooking for carnivores, add a pound of browned ground beef to the mix at the end and stir it up for them.

  • Add the spices and cook over low heat for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
