My third cousin (or is he my nephew? I can never figure out the titles of all the twigs on my family tree) Danny is five years old. He and his father were trying to figure out what to make for lunch the other day when the little chef stumbled upon a dish that even his little sister, who doesn't like to eat anything, gobbled up.

It's simple and tasty. It's a main dish that could double as a dessert. One day, it may be the comfort food that your kids look back on as adults when they are looking for the food that warms them and brings them back to their childhood.
When Robbie (Danny's father) gave me the recipe, I thought, "That's too simple." So I set about complicating it. I added ingredients. I tried to alter the cooking method. I tried to use different ingredients.
None was as good as the original recipe. Danny Boy is obviously a culinary genius who understands that less is more, that a meal does not have to be complicated to be great.
Keep an eye on this young man. He is starting simply, but he may be a Cordon Bleu chef one day. You could be standing in line one day at a fancy bistro one day in order to get a plate of his famous Macaroni and Bees...
Danny's Macaroni and Bees
1 cup elbow macaroni, cooked and drained.
1/4 cup honey (from the bees!)
1 teaspoon butter
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Mix the honey, butter and cinnamon in a saucepan and put over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  • As soon as it begins to bubble take it off the heat and stir in the macaroni.
  • Eat.

Vegetarian.
