Escape with a fresh fruit salad

In a tropical sttate of mind the other day, I spent my brief lunch break, dangling my toes in the pool, listening to some Calypso music and eating a great fruit salad.
All my life I have heard about this alleged Grapefruit Diet. You know the one: if you  eat half a grapefruit with every meal and drink grapefruit juice, you'll lose weight...all the Hollywood actresses stay super slim and trim with this diet.
Though the grapefruit diet originated in the 1930s, it came to popularity in the 1970s, when someone started the rumor that this high fat, high cholesterol diet that was supplemented with lots of grapefruit, was approved as a weight loss miracle by the Mayo Clinic. It wasn't.

A 2004 study (funded, not surprisingly by The Florida Citrus Department) found that participants lost an average of 4 pounds over 12 weeks by consuming the grapefruit or grapefruit juice with each meal and exercising regularly. It was hypothesized that the grapefruit reduced insulin levels, which, in turn, encourages fat loss.
So, all that aide, I just like grapefruit...and bananas and pineapple and just about any tropical fruit. If you want to try the Grapefruit Diet or if you just want to try a great fruit salad, try this.
